The DEWALT DW368 is a heavy duty 7- ¼ inch lightweight circular saw. It weighs 9.5 pounds and has a 15-amp 2,2000 MWO motor and a No Load Speed of 5,800 RPM. This sidewinder also includes a 56-degree beveling capacity with stops at 45 and 22.5 degrees, a depth of cut at 90 degrees of 2 3/8 inch and a depth of cut at 45 degrees of 1 3/4 inch. It is built with a magnesium shoe (ribbed base), site blades for any angle, an 18 tooth carbide-tipped blade, and a blade wrench. It is made of yellow ABS plastic with molded in texture surfaces. All saws come in a sturdy molded case with twin clasps and ample room for the saw and spare blades. The 8ft long cord wraps easily around the body and handle for proper storage. However, it does not have a Rear Pivot or an Electric Brake. The saw was released on November 3, 2005.

This sidewinder saw’s lightweight feature, but heavy-duty capacity makes it a great tool for longer use on big jobs. Users can last longer because the saw is not as heavy as most heavy-duty machines. The amps and motor create enough power for professional grade applications – not just for home use. This should be able to handle any cutting carpenters come across. The DEWALT DW368 does not have a safety trigger, so to use it, just pull the trigger with your finger and takes more pressure than most other saws (possibly to compensate for the lack of a safety trigger). This also doesn’t have over molded rubber grips to reduce slipping, which is becoming a standard on most saws.
DEWALT DW368 Pros & Cons
The overall performance of the DEWALT DW368 is above average. The most important features of a circular saw is its rpm rating. The Dewalt has in rpm of 5,8000, this translates to having enough momentum and power to cut through hard wood and not stall when hitting knots like in oak. Stalling is a big hazard for amateurs, especially when trying to maneuver around obstacles. The 12 amps are that of a commercial setting and can keep up with any job. It also has a smooth guard retraction and did a good job moving the saw dust out of its rear port to increase visibility when making cuts. On the down side, the Dewalt blades leave a lot to be desired. They have such a tough coating on them that you have to make a lot of cuts before wearing through it, and you cannot see the sharp edges of the carbide until you do. This translates into spending some time making practice cuts before you can get a nice smooth cut.
The beveling capacity of the DEWALT DW368 is forceful bevel cuts and allows common angles to be found easily without making multiple adjustments or guessing. The lower guard design helps to improve making beveled cuts and shim cutting. A clear and unobstructed sight line aids the blade visibility from any angle, making cuts easy to follow and precise. The lower guard doesn’t get bound up when doing difficult cuts and doesn’t need to be opened – just hold the saw normally and the guard functions in the way it was designed to work. The Dewalt scales are easy to read because they are in single-degree increments.

The magnesium shoe is probably the best feature of the DEWALT DW368 saw. Using magnesium makes the base light weight, making it easier to maneuver. Magnesium is also durable, even more durable than steel or aluminum. After a saw gets dropped from heights and bumped over time, the shoe gets dented and looses it shape which causes the blade to get bent. The magnesium also takes about a half pound off of the total saw weight of the saw, normally not a big deal until your using the saw for a couple of hours – then it makes a big difference.
A customer calling himself 24/7 Woodworker had this to say about the DEWALT DW368, “I’ve had this now for about a month and there really isn’t one thing I could find wrong with this saw. It runs smooth, has a good line of sight, feels well balanced and doesn’t bog down on any of the cuts. I also really liked the lower blade guard. It seems to be designed differenty so that it never gets hung up in the material. The case has storage for a couple of blades. I’ve tried the Porter-Cable, Milwaukee, and Bosch, but this is my favorite.”
If you are looking for a professional strength heavy-duty saw, and weight and site are top priorities, then purchase the DEWALT DW368.
